Oliver Twist

blog-imageClass 3 are studying the Victorian Era this term, and I don’t think anyone could dispute that Charles Dickens was one of the most prolific authors of this time.  We have read the novel Oliver Twist over a number of weeks.  The children have really enjoyed reading the novel, they even had the opportunity to become detectives for the morning to investigate who the character Monks really was.  They have all worked really hard to write their own versions of this classic tale and we really hope you enjoy them.

  1. Peacefully waiting, in his room at the Aquarium, Josh was so excited for is holiday. He is eight years old and he is at the aquarium by himself. He thought if he is by himself without anyone, he would enjoy himself. He sat on his chair.

Suddenly Josh heard the speaker turn on so he listened to what the person had to say. He said you can go exploring and look at all the fish swimming in the water, he yell’s “so much fun”!.

So Josh ran out of his room, and when Josh turned around the corner, a stage was there, it said “no kids allowed on stage”! He suddenly felt so sad he went back to his room. Then the speaker turned on again and the person said,”you can go outside”. He didn’t want to go outside so he thought he could make his own band. So he went out his room and he went around and asked people and they said yes.

He had practiced all day and he had got the hang of it, finally he said we can go show of the skills we can do,and show everyone else. He suddenly remembered along time ago when he had seen his baby brother for the first time he was so happy and jolly, it was so cute seeing him like that, but now he is fully grown, but he will never forget this memory of his brother. He remembers when he had seen his mum, although she passed away just after he was born. He never wanted to talk about it.

In the morning he saw his brother in the hallway. As he went out, his grandfather said we are taking you home, he yelled “yay” even though he had so much fun there.

Josh quickly showed his guitar to his brother, then his brother asked if he could join the band? He said yes but he never knew if that was the right answer. He had been spending more time with his brother more than he used to and never stopped talking about the band but sometimes his brother never practiced with his team members and he had made excuses for not practicing with him.

  5. Oliver Twist
The sound of a baby’s cry echoed around the room. The mother uttered a single gasp before she died. Oliver was now alone, an orphan. He was sent to a muddy workhouse. Later when he went inside, the creaky floor was cold bumpy and made out of cobble, it was as big as a street. A few minutes later Oliver was wondering why he was even at the workhouse. Oliver was starting to feel hungry, eventually he asked for more. Mr Bumble looked at the boy enraged so Oliver was sadly sold for five pounds, to a mean-spirited undertaker.

BANG! Oliver’s fist collided with Noah’s nose, blood was pouring down his. Before Oliver gets caught he decided to run away. When he got there he met the Artful Dodger, “Do you have any logins?” Dodger asked Oliver was confused “No I guess” Oliver yelled Dodger did not like that response, so he took him back to Fagin’s house. Oliver still couldn’t believe how beautiful London was.

Nancy saw the boy and kidnapped him, she took him back to the Workhouse, so then he will work with Mr Bumble for a while so he will learn the consequences so he doesn’t hurt anyone else, later Fagin dragged Oliver up some creaky staircase Oliver was frightened he didn’t like the Workhouse anymore because he knows he will never escape.

In the middle of the night, Nancy took Oliver to a dirty, smelly house belonging to Bill, Bill was a bad person, he hated Oliver when he first saw him, he was a horrible man because he had never wanted to even help all of the children suffering from hunger and he also had a bad taste of looks Oliver wanted Bill to be a nice person and will have more friends instead of bad people like Fagin and Dodger instead of Bill threatening other children.

Meanwhile, Fagin and Monks were talking suspiciously about Oliver’s true identity. Later on Bill forced Oliver to rob a house then suddenly two men came running quickly up the stairs “Come back” Bill yelled. When Oliver came out, Bill pulled the trigger of his gun, then it shot poor Oliver in the arm, Bill put Oliver near a large and deep ditch.

Walking slowly to a shop, Mrs Rose found Oliver suffering calmly in the ditch Mrs Rose was panicking so she took little Oliver to her house, she knocked on the door as loud as she could and put Oliver on the bed Oliver was shaking, Mrs Rose went down to Mrs Maylie and asked “can you look at the poor boy, I want to know if he is alright” Mrs Rose asked Mrs Rose and Mrs Maylie went upstairs he is breathing fine. In the morning Nancy ran to Mrs Rose and said that Monks is Oliver younger brother and that they threw Oliver’s true identity in a lake that is all the information I had heard but don’t tell Oliver any of this please.

Later that gloomy night Mr Brownlow was walking down the street quietly and then saw Mrs Rose in the distance and Mrs Rose said Nancy told Mr Brownlow everything that Nancy told her Nancy told me that she overheard Fagin and Monks saying that Monks is secretly Oliver’s brother and threw Oliver’s true identity in a flowing stream that never stops, is poor Oliver going to know any of this, he is not meant to it might be a bit to quick for him to understand any of this, well when are you going to tell him, he has to know doesn’t he? Well I guess so Mrs Rose replied but I don’t know when I should tell him can you help, maybe in the morning he might understand when you tell him because he has to know about his true identity of Monks and why he is treated badly. Thanks for the help.

When Mrs Rose got back Oliver was sound asleep in the bed, In the morning Oliver was already awake but reading in the armchair, Mrs Rose came in the room saying Oliver can I talk to you, um ok what is it Mrs Rose? Have you been wanting to know about your life and who you parents are? Well I guess so, why? I thought it will be time to tell you that Monks is your little brother who helps Fagin Dodger and Bill, how can that be, don’t you know my parents? No sadly I think they passed away after you was born because I would have known them before I was even a child, do I have a sister, I don’t know I didn’t get all the information.

Later Oliver heard policemen in front of the workhouse and Fagin and Bill were in the car being driven to prison, Fagin and Bill were then hung to death, Oliver was so happy he was starting to cry, Mr Brownlow knocked on the door, Mrs Rose answered and said did you hear the news the workhouse is now shut down that is amazing I will go tell Oliver straight away.

Oliver was told and was then adopted by Mr Brownlow and sadly Nancy didn’t make it but Oliver got the life he deserved he now has a step dad and always went to see his aunt Mrs Rose and got better clothing but Monks was mean to him but got half of Oliver’s inheritance Oliver was so happy.
